Professor Elizabeth Elliott, Director

Professor Elliott founded the APSU in 1993 and has been the Director of the Unit since its inception. She is a Professor in the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Sydney and a consultant paediatrician at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.  Professor Elliott was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in June 2008 for academic services to paediatrics and child health, research, education and the establishment of the Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit.

Associate Professor Yvonne Zurynski, Deputy Director
BAppSc, MAppSc, PhD

Associate Professor Zurynski is the Deputy Director of the APSU and takes on the responsibility of the day-to-day management of the APSU.  Yvonne is involved in the assessment and development of new studies in the APSU and in developing strategic links for the APSU. Associate Professor Zurynski has over fifteen years’ experience in medical research, both as a researcher and research manager. Her experience has encompassed different fields of research ranging from trauma and neurology, to primary health and public health research.

Dr Marie Deverell, Senior Research Fellow
BSc (Hons), PhD

Marie joined the APSU in January 2012 as the APSU/PAEDS Senior Research Officer. Marie has extensive experience in advocacy and health policy and has been working in the health field since 2000. Marie brings with her an array of knowledge and skills which has aided in the development of both the PAEDS and APSU surveillance programs.

Amy joined the APSU in October 2013 as a Research Associate. She is currently involved in chronic rare disease projects. Prior to joining APSU, Amy was a neurophysiology technologist with experience in neurology and influenza research.
